November

"Cheese" - John with his picture frame he made at church.

Before I continue I just want to acknowledge how nice that was of Dave to write the previous post about me. I am definitely not mother of the year but it was nice to be complimented.

  • So yes it is November and I am way late on posting our memory verse. Our verse this month is Genesis 1:1- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Dave is good about asking John, "Who made you?" or "Who made the moon?" etc. to which John responds, "God." We got a little lesson in catechism from our friends the Kings so we are trying to be more diligent in teaching these principles to John.
  • The reason I am late on posting this month is I have been convicted about how much time I am spending online these days. You see, being TDY for this long is pretty lonely at times. It is easy for me to try and escape that loneliness by constantly checking facebook, email, or just searching for junk online. However, I have noticed that this kind of behavior has left me feeling lazy and disengaged from those around me. Therefore I am trying to spend less time online and more time being productive, hanging out with John, calling a friend or just sitting and praying. Its a work in progress.
  • Dave and I both love sweets so much. It's just crazy. And I am a sucker for baked goods. But since we are just here TDY I don't want to spend a lot of money building up staples in my kitchen (like flour, sugar, spices) only to have to throw them out when we move. So I haven't really baked anything. But that doesn't mean I don't crave it. So last week I decided to text my mother-in-law and ask her it bake me cookies. In fact, the text read, "Please send cookies." AND SHE DID! We love her and her cookies. Anyone else want to send me cookies? I will also accept cakes too. Red Velvet please.
  • We only have two more weeks here in Texas! We really can't wait to move to Pensacola. I am so excited. However, in the past few weeks San Antonio has really redeemed itself in terms of the weather. It is just perfect here. Today at bible study one of the older women looked at me and said, "Look at you in those shorts!" and I said, "I lived in England three years so I am going to wear shorts as long as possible." Are you with me Lakenheath ladies??
Lastly, I am posting this during game 6 of the World Series. I am really hoping for a Yankee win tonight so we can have our lives back. Above is a picture of John and Dave during the national anthem. Yes, we do have clothes for John but this was just before bedtime so he was already stripped down.

Cheers from Texas... t-minus two weeks!

Kate, I know exactly what you mean about using the internet as a way to just fill the time!! After reading this post, I'm going to really try to cut back my time on it too. I've been feeling lonely as well, and I think it took reading this to realize that it might just be that I'm not really trying to "get out there"...instead I'm filling up all of my time zoning out in blogland! Fun, but not very productive :)

Love to you...can't wait to see pics of the new house! I hope your move goes well, though I just can't believe that you're not simply devastated to be leaving Texas :)

Call us if you come through Waco in the process of moving. We would love to get to see you again!

I always love your posts so much Kate! I can definitely relate to using the internet to fill time since so many of my friends are so far away and at times it gets lonely, yet it's still not a good excuse and I need to cut back!!! I can also relate to appreciating the warm weather...New Mexico feels tropical after living in Canada for three and a half years!

I would definitely send you some baked goods if they wouldn't take two weeks to arrive! Best wishes for the move!
