- I had been having some pain in my upper right abdomen for about five days. The episodes would come a go but when they were present, they seemed to get progressively worse. I remember my doctor saying that pain in this particular area can be a sign of preclampsia (high blood pressure in pregnancy). It made me a little nervous as I have had several friends who have had preclampsia and they have had to go on bedrest. I decided to take a trip up to labor and delivery where they monitored me for awhile and based on what I said, they diagnosed me with gallstones. Yuck! I guess pregnant women are prone to get them so here I am. I was so thankful it wasn't preclampsia. However, I do have to watch what I eat so I don't aggravate the issue. Now mind you, I am not one to eat a lot of unheatlhy food except for my sweet tooth. I hardly ever have fried stuff or junk food but I love my sweets! Bu the doc said in addition to not eating things like red meat, beans and onions, I am to limit my sweets intake. SO what did I do the very next night? I made oatmeal choc chip cookies (with egg beaters instead of real eggs and light butter.. and hey oatmeal is supposed to be good for your cholestorol levels right?). Needless to say, while Pres. Obama was going on a on during the State of the Union address, I was wiggling in pain on the couch. Dave said I was silly and that I need to reduce my intake. He knows I can't cut out sweets all together but he said I should reduce my intake. I exclaimed that I had reduced my intake! I only ate two cookies! This could be a rough three more months if this gallstones thing keeps me from my sweets.
- Oh the old people at the gym. I am sure they are nice but they say the craziest things. Thankfully here in Pensacola they have a family fitness center where you can take your kids and workout while they play in a supervised area. They even have a staff member who plays with the kids while you exercise! It is really nice. However, the family portion of the center is connected to the Wellness Center where a lot of the retirees exercise. They like to come over and see the kids so sometimes they work out on the family center equipment. Yesterday a older lady (in her 80s I am sure) was on the bike next to me giving me a play-by-play of the interactions between John and another girl. "Oh she's taking the piano away from him... oh she's giving it back... she's taking it away again... that is just rude and he looks upset... oh good she is getting another toy..." AHHHHH please leave me alone I just want to read the Economist while I ride the bike in peace! Then she looks down at my belly and says, "It's a girl" and I respond, "It's a boy." Then her other old lady friend comes in and looks at me and says, "How pregnant are you?" "Six months," I reply. "And you are exercising???" she responds. Then the other old lady stands up for me and says, "They tell them they can exercise these days." Ah well, there are worse things in life than the conversations I have to have with the older crowd each time I go to the gym.
Well those are some pieces of info from our lives. Cheers!

Oh Kate, I totally empathize with you about the old people! When we were in Slovakia and I was pregnant with Jackson, I so desperately wanted to swim to get exercise (it was the middle of winter). But once I started showing more than just a small bump I had to totally give it up because I got so many comments about how I would get an infection and my baby would die, etc... I just couldn't deal with it anymore! I didn't even try when pregnant with Morgan. :) So your post totally brings back memories! Glad that you are able to get some exercise though, that's a great thing to have a bread from the kids and get a work out at the same time!
Those old people gym stories are always good for laugh :) Good luck with limiting your sweets--I'd rather have the pain, too !
I always love reading your blog because it brings a smile to my face :) I definitely sympathize with you on cutting back on sweets- when I am pregnant all I want is dark chocolate M&Ms! Don't stand between a pregnant lady and her sweets!
I think the chatty old ladies at the gym would drive me nuts! I always have to remind myself that someday I'll be senile and old and say inappropriate things too to keep myself from throttling them sometimes.
You look fantastic and hoping the next three months fly by!
I am so glad you posted a picture of you! You look beautiful!!! Good luck with those gall stones (I don't think I could give up sweets either).
Hi beautiful Momma! Love the picture, you look amazing! LOVE the stories....thanks for a good chuckle! Hang in there, I would have a hard time giving up the sweets too!
