Well as most folks have heard, we will be separating from the Air Force at the end of the year. We are both excited and a bit nervous as we look ahead. Here are some FAQ we have gotten:
1) Why??
A) Well, first off, we have both really enjoyed our time in active duty. Flying the F-15 was a dream come true for Dave. But he has always had other dreams he wanted to reach for, and he felt that waiting until he could retire from active duty (when he was about 42 or so) would be too late to try and accomplish his other goals in life.
2) So what does he want to do?
A) Dave's parents were missionaries in Africa for five of his formative years (his third grade year, then all of his high school years). From his time spent there he really loves Africa and he would like to do something related to foreign policy with Africa.
3) You know you won't make a lot of money right away (or ever), right?
A) Yes, we know and we are prepared to make some sacrifices. Dave is also looking at joining the Navy reserves as they have some squadrons that deal with Africa. One of the contract pilots in his current squadron is a commander of one of these reserve squadrons so we are hoping to work that connection.
4) So where will you go?
A) 99% of the jobs Dave is looking for are located in Washington DC. So we think that is where we will be at the end of the year.
5) Does he have a job lined up?
A) No, but he has made a lot of contacts that are helping work connections for him. Additionally, he is applying to some government agencies too.
6) So you put in your separation papers without a job lined up?
A) yes
7) Are you excited?
A) Yes. On so many levels. It is great to think about actually putting roots down somewhere. And I am thrilled that Dave is taking steps to accomplish another one of his dreams.
I have to say I am SO PROUD of my husband! He is so very, very brave to leave the job security and good pay of active duty military to follow his dreams. We are 100% behind him and we are hopeful that our great God will accomplish great things. Please pray for us!
