Smelling the roses at the American Cemetery in Cambridge. This is a very pretty place where over 3000 Americans are buried and there is also a wall of the missing with over 5000 names. Everyone who is buried or missing here was killed on this island (many in training accidents or being evacuated from the D-day beaches and dying here) or in the waters surrounding it during WWII.
My godmother Pam's uncle is one of the missing, so Pam called ahead of our visit and they did a special little thing for us. One of the staff members takes a batch of sand taken from the Normandy beaches, and she fills in the name of Pam's uncle so we can clearly see it on the list. She also presents us with some flags that were displayed at the cemetery on Memorial Day. Very special.

As you can see, the sand makes his name stand out for the picture taking. It was very special. We are grateful for all the men and women (like my grandparents!) who served during WWII.
And it wouldn't be a visit from parents without a date night! We were blessed with great weather so we had a date at the River Bar, which is a bar on top of a hotel with great views of the city.
American football with grandpa the night before they left. See you again soon!
