Heat wave

We had our first (and hopefully last) heatwave of the summer last week.

As you can see, it hit around 94 degrees. And I know that is nothing special to folks in the States, but you have to remember that our homes, schools, and many offices don't have air conditioning. So this makes things very hot! We survived and are hoping that was the last of the 90 degree (or even upwards of 80 degree) temps that we see this year.

Just a pretty view of Trinity college as we shopped in Cambridge last Friday. The nice thing about the boys being in British school is that we have several days a year that Dave is off for American holidays that the boys still have school. So it is like a "date day" with free babysitting! On Friday we are able to go into town and buy some shoes without the boys in tow.

We were invited to a good friend's birthday party at a place called Lammas Land on Saturday. They have this huge, free wadding pool (not more than 1.5 ft deep) that all the masses come and play in. It was a fun atmosphere, but I think I was the only one a bit grossed out that the water isn't chlorinated (or doesn't seem to be), is loaded with grass and other debris, and there are several naked babies/toddlers playing in it. Yikes. I have asked around to several British families if they think it is bit odd but no one else seems bothered by it.

In light of that, I am happy that the pool at the boys' school is chlorinated and little tots like Natalie aren't allowed in until potty trained. She still enjoyed trying on the goggles while watching her brother's swim after school.

Only two weeks left until summer break!
