New Year, New School & New Boots

A new school is upon us and it also means a new school for the boys. We weren't able to get into the village school last year (if it is full they won't admit you, even if you live in the cachment area) but there was room this year so we happily switched. We were sad to say goodbye to old friends, but they are all just up the road in the next village so our paths will cross again. This year, we get to walk to school and it is so much nicer. The school is smaller, and has a newer facility that makes the place feel a lot brighter and nicer... especially in the dark winter months that will soon be upon us.

Adam starting Year 1 and John Year 3

Poor John was quite nervous, despite knowing half his class (soccer team and neighborhood kids).

Adam, who I thought would be nervous and maybe full of tears, was all smiles and has been ever since. Thank you Lord.

Coach Bill and the Year 1 huddle

This weekend was the day Adam has been waiting for for about six months... his first practice for his own soccer team. He was so excited to play on a proper team. He is actually really good so we are excited to see how he does on an actual team.

Backyard soccer games. I love how Natalie is looking like she is celebrating her own goal

The four amigos. Our boys with the two neighborhood kids that they always play with, and who are in their respective classes. The girl is a tough cookie when it comes to soccer. We keep telling her she will be on the England Women's World Cup team when she is older.

Natalie's new pink cowboy boots from Grandma.

I try to get a picture of her but she just runs to the phone to see herself.

Sums up the first day of school, again thank you Lord and to everyone who prayed!

One thing that I noticed pretty quick is that we don't have to pay for or provide any school supplies. Not even a pencil! And the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 all get free school meals and snacks. We do have to pay for uniforms, PE uniforms and PE shoes. But I was surprised we didn't have to provide any school supplies.

One other exciting bit for John this year is that he gets to begin learning French. We'll see how that goes.

Cheers!
