Wow so we are here in America. It definitely takes some adjusting as we were so used to the UK way of doing things. We have felt very overwhelmed at times with the vast array of dining and shopping options. I honestly have not felt the need to buy many things or eat out a lot because since living in a land that was not very convenient, you learn to do without the conveniences! I like to organize my thoughts by bullet points so here you go:
Things we like and have enjoyed in the past week:
- Driving fast on the big wide freeways
- Very friendly people in the stores
- fun places to eat
- Seeing good friends again (Kelly and Nicki)
- Wearing shorts
- Air conditioning
- THE FOOD NETWORK!
- That we don't need a transformer for our appliances
- Cell phones here are way cool. I love taking pictures and videos on my phone and sending them! And it is so nice to be able to talk to people here without having to figure out the time difference.
- FRIENDS!
- Cooler weather where we can actually go outside in the afternoon
- Green landscape
- Dave misses the Strike Eagle
- Roundabouts
- AF families lives do not revolve around the base here in Texas. That is very weird as our live was always intertwined with our base in England.
- America is the land of frequent stops (either stoplights or stop signs) and it is pretty ridiculous
- Moving is hard and sad
- Dave is a good husband
We have just moved into our apartment in Texas where we will be for four months. The AF would not ship any of our good here so we are renting minimal furniture for our short stint here. It is going to feel like Christmas when we get to Florida and can see all of our stuff again.
Let us know if you plan to visit this area this fall!
Cheers.

Yay! So glad you arrived safely! I definitely agree with the points that moving is no fun. Living minimally without furniture is also something we've done and you're right, you will be SO happy to see your belongings again after living like indoor campers. We'd love to visit and I'll let you know if we'll be in Texas sometime this fall!
Dear Kate & Dave,
We met you in England while we were visiting our daughter and her husband, Ben & Carolyn Keim. Since then, I have enjoyed watching John grow and keeping up with your family through your blog. You mentioned in the latest post the AF sending your things to Florida. What area are you locating to? We live in sunny central Florida in Lakeland. Just curious if you were coming close - Tampa/Orlando? Take care. Beverly Robinson
I agree wholeheartedly with your 'general observations' :) I hope yall are adjusting well to TX-know we are thinking of you!
