Irish Cousins

Here is a picture of me and my cousins on my mom's side of the family. My cousin Brendan (bottom row left) is the one who just got married. Four of these cousins are siblings and they live (and grew up) just miles away from where Dave grew up. I spent time with these cousins in New Jersey every summer, and it turns out Dave was just down the street! These are all really great people... I love spending time with them.

These people party like the true Irish. There was an elaborate reception for 350 with great food, lots of dancing, and a loud (but good) band. Then after the reception ended at midnight, they rented another ballroom for "The Party After the Party" that went from midnight- 2 A.M. with another Irish Band, and of course food and drinks. Then everyone rolls back to the Hospitality Suite to continue the party. The next day there is a nice breakfast followed by a BBQ. I can't keep up with these people! I am getting old.

Out of the seven of us, I am the one who is the most different. I am the only child from NM when they are all from NJ. I am not someone who really parties (unless you call a squadron coffee or a playdate a party), and I just don't see them all as much so I am not as connected (although I would love to be because they are all so fun). However, when my mom asked for us all to get together for this picture, I felt a true sense of belonging. I didn't have to do anything to be a part of this group, I just am a part of it because I was born into this family. It really stirred my heart. I feel like so many parts of my (and everyone else's) lives these days have to do with us working to be a part of a group... but this is a group that I will always be a part of, even if I don't see these people for years. I love weddings because it brings families together and it reminds me of these bonds that exist by birth and not by "doing." I hope that makes sense.

Cheers!
