September

Yay for September! It has to start getting cooler here soon, right? Well, maybe in another month and a half.

Not too much new here... that is why I don't post so much because there isn't anything of note going on. But I love to read other people's blogs, and maybe someone (like my mom) likes to read mine so I thought I would post a few pics and give some bits and bobs.

  • John begins preschool after Labor Day. He will go two days a week this year; I am excited for it for him. We just stopped swim lessons and we decided against doing any other activities (soccer, etc.) so preschool will be his only thing for now.
  • Dave is beginning his last semester of his Masters course. He is taking one course as well as doing his Comps. It will be great when this is all done!
  • John is in the process of dropping his nap. I am very saddened by this as I love the break I have at naptime! We have been doing rest time where he stays in his room, but he comes out all the time (despite many different strategies to keep him there) so it becomes a very frustrating time for me. If anyone has any advise, I would love to know how to keep him in his room! In all this, I look back and I am so grateful that I had over a year when both boys napped at the same time.
  • Adam is doing well, not walking yet but doing well. He will be sixteen months old in about a week!
  • I feel like I made the world a better place last week :)  At the gym we go to (which is on base and is free) they have movies or TV shows on a lot of the time for the kids. While I really don't like that, I figure it is something I have to deal with since they watch our kids for free. Well they had been watching a lot of Disney movies lately (Cars, Toy Story, the Incredibles) and I really don't think they are appropriate for little kids like John. Maybe other 3 year olds can tolerate them, but John is very impressionable so when the characters yell, argue, and hit each other, John does the same thing. So finally the other week he told me "shut up." I asked where he heard this, and he said "The Incredibles." So I talked to the lady in charge of the childcare and asked if they could not watch any more Disney/Pixar movies because of the behavior John was exhibiting (and maybe some of the other kids were having the same trouble). She agreed and now they mainly watch Dora, Little Einstein's, etc. Yay! While I still don't like that John watches TV for basically the whole time we are at the gym, I figure if I go only three times a week, and that time is his TV time for the day, then we are okay :)

Adam loves to wear things over his eyes. He would do this all day!

Cheers!

I am so with you on the pixar movie thing. They completely scare Caleb, and we have had to request that his class not watch them several times for Mother's Day Out. Now he is in preschool, and it isn't an issue anymore. I am glad that I don't have to feel like the psycho overprotective mom anymore!

Wow-good for you for speaking up! I am not sure that I would react very well to Caroline telling me 'shut up' :)

I really dislike the language and behavior in so many kids movies too! Love Adam's shades :)

I like reading your blog! Chase has dropped his nap in the last two weeks. If you find something that works to keep John in his room let me know!
