I have been waiting to go "antiquing" for awhile now since we have been here. I enjoy a good hunt for pieces of furniture with character that can hopefully become heirlooms. For a few months I had been trying to remember a place up in Norfolk that I found the dresser that we have used for each baby. My friend Sarah reminded me of it... Old Barn Antiques. The place is run by a family and they buy huge lots of antiques and sell them to antique dealers all over the country. They are not open to the public with (apparently) the exception of the American service members... they really like working with us and the base gives them some kind of incentive with the VAT (their sales tax here). I couldn't quite figure out the relationship but they seemed very happy to open their warehouses to just me on Sunday afternoon! So I drove 1 hr and 15 minutes to get up there and when I walked in I remember how overwhelming it was. Take a look:
There were four warehouses, three were enonormous and had dressers stacked on tables, with things so tightly packed in that some aisles you couldn't even walk down. Then there was an upstairs too!
Some things were very ornate, others very plain.
Dave would have an a migraine immediately if he had come with me.
There wer cobwebs everywhere and I did see a mouse run through. Yikes. To be expected in a place like that but it really gave me the creeps.
It ended a bit disappointingly as I didn't buy anything. I was expecting the prices to be lower but they were pretty high. I think I am going to have to hit up some of the auctions around here. Cheers!
