Craziness!

Well in an effort to ensure that this blog documents our real lives, and not just some fabulous fantasy version of them, I want to update you on some craziness we have been experiencing this past Christmas week.

  • I hit a turkey with our car this past week. Dave says it was a pheasant but the thing was huge so I say it was a turkey. There are a million of these looney birds on the rural roads near our home and I am so tired of stopping or swerving for them. So last week I saw one and I thought to myself, "I am just going to keep going full speed ahead and it will run out of my way or I will hit the stupid thing and be on my way." Well when I came up on it tired to get out of the way, but instead of running from my car, it ran towards my car and I hit it. It made a really loud noise and ended up damaging the plastic bug screen on the front of the car. I am really glad it didn't hit the windshield because I am sure it would be cracked or something. I love animals so don't think I am an animal hater... I just get so sick of these stupid things in the road, you know?
  • We had the good fortune of spending Christmas Eve with some friends at our house. I made a red velvet cake and we sang happy birthday to John and Jesus. John had his birthday cake and he seemed to really like it. However, that night we woke up to him screaming several times and it turned out he had developed a terrible diaper rash. We think it was from the cake! Last year when John was a newborn, our first night home with him was Christmas Eve. So we were looking forward to having a Christmas Eve night filled with sleep... hopefully we will experience that next year!
  • John has developed a severe case of "I only want to be with mommy" disease. He has never been clingy to me or even very affectionate. But over the last three weeks he only wants to be with me. Maybe it is because I just weaned him a few days ago. He isn't sick, he is just a complete mommy's boy. Dave will hold him and he will scream for me and when he finally calms down Dave will hand him to me, and he will hug me, then wave bye to Dave. Poor Dave!

Enjoying the cake before the diaper rash!

John was blessed with many great gifts for Christmas and his birthday. Thank you all for the nice birthday wishes, cards and gifts! Below are some videos of him with his new toys.

He really likes this walker, but he gets frustrated with it too!

Cheers!

Poor little guy with his diaper rash! We just battled a nasty case of that too and ended up having to get topical antibiotics and anti-yeast medication- yuck! I was laughing so hard about your story of hitting the turkey...I feel the same way about these stupid squirrels that we have here. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas- I've learned that holidays with children are always an adventure :)
