Happy Birthday John!

Today is John's first birthday! I can't believe that one year ago today we were in the hospital with our new little bundle. It has certainly been a crazy year but we are so thankful for John in our lives, as well as for all the prayers and support of our family and friends. It is hard to be away from family as we raise our big boy, but we have been so blessed by our friends and neighbors here in England. With the business of the holiday season, it is easy to forget John's birthday. But all our neighbors gave us cards to mark his birthday, and two of them brought him nice gifts! So instead of focusing on who isn't here to celebrate with us, we choose to see all the great people God has placed around us to be here in this season of our lives.

There was no way we could have had a big, traditional birthday party for John because our house is so so small. We did want to have some people over to mark the big day, but (as you may have read in the previous post about Paris) illness has struck our household. John had pinkeye and David had a terrible case of the flu. Well I guess no one has a good case of the flu but Dave was almost dead yesterday. So we changed our plans and I came up with a plan B. Since John loves bananas, I decided to make some banana bread and that would be his cake. We also took him to the swings which he loves. See the video below of us presenting John with his first birthday cake/bread/thing. By the way, notice his t-shirt. I love that it says, "cheeky chap." How British!

We hope you have a wonderful day celebrating the best birthday gift of all: the birth of God's Son! Cheers!

Happy Birthday John! We have been talking a lot about John today and the boys were so excited it was his birthday, but so sad they couldn't be there to celebrate!

Thanks for the video Kate, I was getting flashbacks to Dave's operatic-versions of Happy Birthday back in middle school. I hope John had a wonderful birthday and a very Merry Christmas to you all!

Happy first birthday John!!! I love the banana bread idea! Holly hates frosting because it makes her fingers sticky and would have been much happier if I had done the same! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!
