Our last hurrah!

This past week we took our last vacation while residents of Europe. We could have chosen to go anywhere as there are a lot of famous places we have not been. However, since we are not big risk takers and we do have this little man who is 17 months old and keeps following us around, we decided to go someplace familiar... back to Edelweiss. Edelweiss Lodge and Resort is a military resort in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany which is very close to the border with Austria. This is where we vacationed last summer and we loved it! It is a nice, modern, American-style resort in the heart of the Alps. We were blessed with wonderful weather so we hiked, toured some towns, got some ice cream and enjoyed the ammenities (free refills, prices in dollars, child care) of the resort.

A view from the back of our room. The mountain in the back is Zugspitze, the tallest peak in Germany. The border with Austria is just on the other side.

In Innsbruck, Austria

We saw some horses on our hike

One of our hikes took us to a meadow high up in the mountains where a lone Biergarten stood. Dave enjoyed a beer while we ate our lunch. There are so many places to hike in Bavaria!

Dave's cousins Nate, his wife Elaine, and Jason met up with us in Partenkirchen our last night. The guys had a great time reconnecting.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. I was not happy to have to come home mainily because I knew what was ahead... our big move back to the States. Not that I am not happy to go back to the promiseland but the logistics of it all, along with all the goodbyes, is a bit overwhelming. The word "yikes" pretty much sums up what I am feeling. I am encouraged by Matthew 6:32 when Jesus is telling us not to worry. He says "... your heavenly Father knows you need all these things." Sometimes I feel like God doesn't know all the little things that need to happen. And there are SO many little things involved in our move. But this verse assures me that He does know and He does care. Hopefully I can be reminded of this often.

Cheers

What wonderful photos! It sounds like you had an amazing last European getaway! I am sure that things will fall into place for the big move and it will be so nice once you're settled back in the US! Maybe your next family getaway should be to come to Calgary to visit your buddies here :) It sure is nice in the summer and early fall! Best wishes on the move and we'll be praying it goes smoothly!
