6 months

Ahhh glorious November. I never would have said that when we lived in England (don't get me wrong I really miss that place)... but the weather here is wonderful! Shorts and t-shirts in November! I was made for this!!! Anyway, veteran's weekend is a big deal here in Pensacola. The three day Blue Angels homecoming air show takes place on this weekend and it is really a great time. Pensacola is the home of the Blue Angels (the Navy flight demonstration team) and so from March through Veteran's weekend, we get the treat of seeing them practice for two mornings every week. We know their show by heart and we pretty much know the times when they will fly in their perfect formation right above our house. I don't think I will ever tire of it.

The airshow goes from Thursday- Saturday with the same program every day.  On Wednesday, Dave had the wonderful idea of just throwing on his flight suit (he was on leave) to make himself look official, and bringing John out on to the flightline to see the whole airshow practice. No one said anything about it, so Dave and John said on the VIP platform, alone, just watching the Strike Eagles, the C-130 and of course, the Blue Angels. How cool! Their own private airshow! John was in awe and couldn't stop talking about it for days. We will be sure to make our attendance at the practice show an annual tradition. Above is a picture of John with the Blue Angels before they took off.

Adam is enjoying the headset

So we have survived the first six months! Adam is halfway through his first year and is doing well.  In my efforts to support truth in blogging, here are some things that are currently not going so well:
  • He refuses to take a bottle, but is very hungry so during the day he has been only going 2-3 hours between feedings. Yikes. He has even woken up at 11 for two nights to have another full feeding.
  • He doesn't really like solids. So combined with the issue above, it makes for a hungry baby who isn't all that content. Dave has encouraged me to keep trying different solids and today we found one that he liked: apples and cherries. Yay. So much for introducing vegetables before fruits! Our kids are doomed to have a sweet tooth anyway.
Other than that, Adam is a lot of fun to have around. Very cuddly and sweet when he has a full tummy and when John is not bullying him. Does anyone else have the problem of the older kid beating up on the younger kid? We are struggling with that with John towards Adam.

Cheers!

Love the mickey-mouse ears on Adam! I bet it makes it hard for you to get much done with him eating so often. At least you found one that he likes! Maybe mix the apples and cherries with cereal/everything else? Apples with cherries was my personal favorite :) Good luck!

Kate -
Rory was exactly the same way - she never took to solids and is still fighting new foods - but will accept anything sweet! :) I guess she knows what's good! Reagan became very violent with Rory around the 8 mth point when she would try and get her toys. It took time and lots of discipline! They have come to a happy agreement on most occasions, but at least she stopped hitting Rory on the head. :) It does get better! I'll be praying for all of that.

A friend posted this link to fb, and the suggestions seem really good. No personal experience, I have no siblings or children :)
