The Good and the Not-So-Good

Here are a few bits as of late:

The Good:

  •  Look at me! I am not crafty at all but I did manage to cut out these hearts and have John decorate them for Valentine's day. This is a big accomplishment.

  • Look at me again! I put up curtains! These are ones in the breakfast area and I have matching ones in the living room. The house looks so much better now, even John said, "Mommy I like the curtains."
  • We had a date night on Saturday and had some good green curry and then saw "The King's Speech." Very good movie. I think we were some of the only younger folk there. It was a sea of white hair all around us. I told Dave that we will make good old people when we grow up. We fit in well.
  • I am currently really enjoying life here. This is a nice year for us in that (so far) we know we will not be moving or having a deployment. Therefore we can just enjoy being together. Next year may bring a lot of changes so I am really trying to enjoy this downtime while we can.
 The Not-So-Good:
  •  I tried to make homemade pizza dough and it was a disaster. I was an hour late for the super bowl party we were invited to because I had to run to the store to buy the canned dough. Bummer. I will try again but my ego took a hit. Especially because everyone says it is so easy!

  • John still is not fond of his brother. It is sad for us as Adam loves John but John doesn't want anything to do with him except boss him around, and ocassionally knock him over. Any tips??? We are trying to implement "brother time" where they have to play together and John can earn a reward if he is good. But I hate forcing a relationship at the same time. Please send me advice!

  • Swim lessons. I enrolled John in four sessions of swim lessons where he and three of his friends (all girls, of course) are tough by a private instructor. I used to teach swim lessons when I was in high school so I always wanted to do this on my own, but now that I have another baby to handle, it just isn't possible. Last summer I worked with John a lot in the water so I would say he is rather good for his age, but he hasn't swam in several months so time for a brush up. Well the pool they do it in here is outdoors but has a bubble over it and it is heated. But it is not warm enough so John is begging to get out the whole time, and towards the end he actually climbs out and asks to go. Hopefully it will be warmer this week!
Cheers!

I LOVE to cook and I am telling you that homemade pizza dough is NOT easy. In fact, it really isn't worth it with so many other alternatives these days. I just found a 89 cent dough at our Harris Teeter a few weeks ago. It is so easy, you just add water and it makes the best pizza crust ever! Homemade dough tends to come out too doughy, if it rises at all. I like a thin crusty crust. Do you have a Trader Joes in FL? They sell great dough. Don't feel like you aren't a good cook because you can't make dough. Yeast is weird and temperamental.

I second Liz's comment about yeast :) I have a cooking light recipe that I use; if you would like I can send it to you.
