Adventures in Weaning

Hopefully the title of this post didn't scare you too much! Well the picture above pretty much sums it up. Weaning this little guy has been a painful process. I didn't realize how attached he was to nursing. It is like we are going through cry-it-out all over again! I think the difficulty lies with the fact that Adam has not taken a bottle since he was three months old. So he is not used to anything else but nursing. I have dropped two of his feedings and have replaced them with a sippy cup of milk and he cries for a good 20 minutes before I can get him to calm down and take a sip or two of milk. Plus he has become very clingy to me. I feel like I can't get anything done. He also managed to come down with an ear infection during this time, as well as getting in four more teeth. All tough stuff for a little guy. We will get through it, it is just a lot harder than I thought it would be.

We hope you had a good Mother's Day. Our day was nice, complete with a new Chi (yay! I think it will change my life!), dinner out and a walk on the beach. The really news from the day was that one of our friends who is a doctor, heard that Adam was sick so he brought his doctor equipment to look in Adam's ears at church. He saw that one of Adam's eardrums had ruptured so he was able to call in a prescription that afternoon for us, and now Adam is on the mend. He saved us a trip to the ER or several hours at the clinic/pharmacy on Monday. Thank you Paul!

For some reason this year I was more attuned to how Mother's Day can be a hard day for many people. Maybe it is because I couldn't be with my mom and mother-in-law on those days, and so they had no children or grandchildren to celebrate with. Or I think of those who have lost their mothers this past year, or those who are going through infertility treatments and wish they were mothers. I never saw this as a hard day before but I was mindful of it this year.

Last week we had short but great visit with the Holcomb's (Dave's sister and her husband). Their son Bray is just three months older than John so they have fun together. Brady, Bray's dad, took the boys to see the Blue Angel's practice which was so fun for John. We didn't get to spend too much time with them but we are grateful for what we get.

Two more days and Adam will be one year old!

Cheers!
